Barbara Jean Martin

Barbara Jean Martin August 3, 1935 to April 8, 2024, passed away in her sleep at home with her husband Jerry by her side. She was born in Colfax, WA to parents Henry Long and Jean (Russell) Long. Barbara graduated from Colfax High School and Eastern Washington University with a BA in education. Barbara and Jerry were married in 1953, together they raised six children and enjoyed 70 years of marriage.

Once all of Barbara’s children were in school, she attended college full time at Eastern while still taking care of her family. Barbara had a career in elementary education as a 4th grade teacher and librarian in West Valley School District. Barbara was an avid booklover and had a passion for history and reading, making a difference in many children’s lives as well as her own children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara was a loving and compassionate person always putting her family’s needs before her own. She enjoyed cooking and hosting large family gatherings at their home and their cabin on Lake Roosevelt.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerry; children, Scott (Hitomi), Laurie (Mike Jones), Mark Martin and Sister, Linda Schmidt. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews to cherish her loving memory.  She was preceded in death by her sons, Russ, Rick, and Mike Martin.
