Agnes Mae Grineau

Agnes (Lowrey) Hayes Grineau was born August 6, 1926 in Dunbar, NE to Ferne and Wilmer Lowrey. She spent her early childhood days in Nebraska and Iowa, graduating from Nebraska City High School in 1944 and attended The University of Nebraska and College of Idaho.
In 1949 she Married Lt. James W Hayes in Spokane, WA and later joined him in Landsburg, Germany where he was stationed with the Air Force. They later transferred to Rhine Main AFB in Frankfurt, Germany. Returning to the United States and after several station changes they were transferred to Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico. Captain Hayes then retired from the Air Force and they settled in Spokane, WA.
Agnes was always active in her children's school activities and the Boys and Girl Scouts. She worked for J.C. Penneys and several travel agencies in Spokane. She retired in 1988.
After the death of her husband Jim, she married long time friend Bryan Grineau and they made plans for their retirements. Bryan died tragically soon after their marriage.
Agnes has kept busy with the combined families, served as President of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary for four years and loved helping with all of the Salvation Army Auxiliary projects. She also helped lead a Senior Exercise Group at the First Nazarene Church, always keeping busy with her volunteer activities and living life to the fullest.
Agnes was preceded in death by both husbands, Mother, Father, Stepfather, Stepmother, Brother, Johnny who died as a Japanese P.O.W., and Stepson Stuart.
Surviving are her Daughter Kathleen (David) Pfeiffer and family, Son Patrick Hayes, her Sister Roberta (Robert) Collins and family, Stepchildren Arlene Grineau and family, Scott (Stephanie) Grineau and family, Tammy Grineau and family, Lori Palmerton and family, Collin Parker and family, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Agnes asked donations be made to the Spokane Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, E 222 Indiana, Spokane, WA 99202, or the charity of your choice.
Please join us in celebrating her life at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N Division, Spokane, WA. Viewing is Tuesday June 15th from 4-8 pm, Service will be Wednesday, June 16th at 9:00am. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery at 10:30am.
