Tribute

Anna Bronny was born in Romania on July 11th 1928 to Austrian and Ukrainian parents. The family fled to Germany before WWII to escape the Soviet invasion, and growing up as a refugee in Germany, one of her duties was ironing laundry on a German military base. After the war she met the love of her life Ernie who was working as an interpreter for the US military. He was born in Germany but grew up in Canada and was bilingual. Anna spoke German, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian and some Yiddish. They were married in 1949 and their eldest daughter Lilo was born in 1950. In 1952 they emigrated to England to be near Ernie’s mother, and there Anna learned to speak English. They had three more children, Norman, Linda and Michael. In 1967 the family emigrated to the USA and settled in San Carlos CA, on the San Francisco Peninsula. Anna worked in prototype electronics assembly for GTE and HP. She loved cooking and entertaining in her home in the San Carlos hills, and enjoyed traveling around the state visiting many of the wonderful sites from the ocean to the Sierra Mountains. She and Ernie would often take spur of the moment trips to Lake Tahoe for the weekend. After they retired in 1991, they moved to Spokane to be near Norman’s family, and soon Michael’s family joined them from Indiana. In 1992 she lost Ernie to cancer and moved into the Kings Point community where she made many new friends. She died peacefully in Spokane at the age of 92 and is survived by her daughter Lilo (Mike) Larry and son Norman, grandchildren Lance (Bridget) Campbell, Jennifer (Jay) Tollefson, Michael Bronny, Michelle Bronny and great grandchildren Sydney, Spencer and Sabrina Tollefson, Ivory Hart and Zephyr Beer. She was preceded in death by her son Michael, daughter Linda and daughter-in-law Anne Bronny. The family would like to share their gratitude to the staff at Royal Park Retirement Center and Purity’s Calico Cottage for the friendship and treatment they provided during the time she spent under their care.
