Larry Miles Moore

March 20, 1935 ~ February 16, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Lifelong Spokane resident and Cherrywood Place community member Larry M Moore passed away of natural causes on 16 Feb 2021.  Larry was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 51 years, Lois (Harmon) Moore and daughter Laurie (Moore) Pemble.  He is survived by his son Lanny and three grandchildren.  Upon graduating from John R. Rogers of Spokane in 1953 Larry went to work at Inland Empire Cold Storage and Frosty Ice where he worked for the next 50 years primarily as a maintenance engineer, ensuring the plant operated smoothly no matter the time of day, so beverages could be kept cold during those hot Spokane summer days. His retirement years were spent participating in league bowling, playing in the highly competitive Hillyard Senior Center Croquet league and watching Gonzaga Basketball, Seattle Mariners Baseball, Seattle Seahawk Football and Pittsburg Penguin hockey.  But no sport captured his spirit more than NASCAR racing. His love of cars and racing began around the time he was old enough to drive when he would borrow (wink, wink) his father’s old Model A Ford and take his younger brother Ed, joyriding around the uninhibited and unpopulated north side of Spokane. He even dabbled in racing for a brief time at the old dirt track located at Highway 2 and Hawthorne Road. His hobbies over the years included woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting and reading western novels.  A kind gentle soul with a broad smile Larry will be missed by all.
