Louis M Pontieri died on Dec. 1, 2018, peacefully in his sleep at St. Joseph C.C. Born Jan. 4, 1931 in Spokane to Lucia (Gallicano) and Luigi Pontieri. He was preceded in death by his wife Janna, siblings Lucian (Bud), Florence, Carmel, and son Robert. He is Survived by sister Sister Miriam and children Mary Dougherty, Michael Pontieri (Ursula), Mary McLellan (Tom), grandchildren Megan, Ryan, Anne, Holly, Raymond, Lucia, and Joseph and great-grandchildren Kennadee and Lindsey. Lou attended Gonzaga Prep (‘49) where he played guard and long snapper and was voted Most Congenial. After a stint at G.U., he worked at the State Highway Department (1957-1987) first as a surveyor, then highway engineer and later at a position he would only describe as work, work, work. He was an avid hunter, fisher, woodworker, cook, gardener, and card player - described by his girlfriend and fellow card player Jeanne as master of the crib. Thanks to the staff at Sacred Heart, St. Josephs and especially Fresenius Kidney Care at North Point.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 29th at 10 AM at Assumption Catholic Church, 3624 W Indian Trail Rd. followed by a service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N Wall at 2 PM. To share memories or condolences please visit his tribute wall.
