Tribute

Philip Oscar Joe Schauble of Spokane passed away September 21, 2021. He was born April 1, 1928 in Fayette, ND to Robert and Mary Krautchuk Schauble. He grew up with his eight siblings on a farm in St. John, WA. His love of trees and plants led him to a career as a soil conservationist with the USDA. He married Maureen Doyle on July 9, 1960. Both Phil and Maureen were born on April Fool’s Day. Together they raised six daughters: Julie, Lorretta, Brenda, Sheila, Anita, and Teresa. Phil took pride in landscaping his yard and cultivating his garden. For years he grew the juiciest peaches which the family enjoyed both fresh and frozen. His peach milkshakes were amazing. He made fabulous blueberry pancakes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a church usher. He and Maureen were active in square dancing when they lived in Wenachee and their older girls took square dancing lessons. Phil loved filming home movies and showing them on the projection screen he would set up in the living room. Every winter he created masterpiece snowhills in the backyard for the kids to ride down on saucers. The kids also enjoyed his wheelbarrow rides. He was always telling jokes, especially about outhouses and toilet paper. He loved his nicknames “Oscar the Grouch” and “Grumpa”. Every summer he organized his annual Schauble family reunion in Mission Park. He struggled with memory loss for the past year but was lucid and engaged when it came to his newest great-grandson, Tristen, who he referred to as “the little guy”. Phil was preceded in death by his grandson Tristen Jordan and his son-in-law M. Michael Bishop; his sister Elizabeth DeLong, brothers John, Donald, William, Rollin, and Albert; and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maureen, daughters Julie (Andy) Schauble-Nguyen, Lorretta Schauble, Brenda (Michael) Coles, Sheila (Rodney) Molett, Anita (John) Willis, and Teresa Bishop; granddaughters Cortni Jordan, Genevieve Boyer, Demetria Schauble, and Darian Bishop; grandsons Braxton Molett and Deitrek Molett; grandchild Arlo (formerly Kerstin) Bishop, great-granddaughter Kamika King, great-grandsons Tregene King, Demiro Schauble, Keimoni Madden, Mark McBeth III, Xavion Madden, and Tristen Boyer; brothers Milton and Joseph (Carolyn). Thank you to the staff of Moran Vista for the loving care they provided in his last few months and to Kindred Hospice for assisting him in a peaceful transition.
