Richard John Harmon {Dick} 86 years of age passed away peacefully in his sleep May 5th 2022. After a long battle with C.O.P.D and pulmonary problems. He was born Jan 11th 1936 in Kelso WA. To parents Del T Harmon and Bonita Maxine (Robinson) Harmon. He moved with his parents to Portland, OR., at an early age. He attended Highland grade school and Jefferson High School.

Dick meet his wife Ida Arlene (Harder) when they were in high school. They were married in 1954, and in their 67 years of happy married life they had many fun adventures and made long time friendships.\

After High School Dick worked in the Portland, shipyards as a pipe fitter. Then he continued on to the Union Pacific R.R., as a Steam Fitter/Sheet Medal Apprenticeship out of Portland, Oregon. He worked there until offered an advancement with U.P.R.R in Spokane, WA., so the couple with their two boys Mike and Ron moved in 1964 and have always called Greenacres, WA. home.

A friendly neighbor kept urging Dick to talk with his brother about a job in the elevator industry. Leaving the U.P.R.R. Dick continued in the Elevator trade I.U.E.C Local 19 for 30 years where he retired in 1996 as a business agent in the trade. He always enjoyed the work with his Union brothers and sisters he met over the years.

Dick and Arlene enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and R.V. travel, sailing and racing their San Juan 21 ft. sailboat “Sweet Pea” all over the Pacific Northwest and San Juan Islands.

Dick was a collector-steam and gasoline engines, toy trains, and antiques. He couldn’t pass up an Antique store or good Junk store. The couple enjoyed Car Shows/Ford Club with their little Nash Metropolitan to their 67 Mercury Cougar.

Survived by Wife Ida Arlene (Harder), sons Mike Harmon, Ron (Jacque) Harmon, 5 grandchildren and 5 great –grandchildren.

After a long battle with C.O.P.D and years of carrying an oxygen bottle he is now at rest. He will be greatly missed by family, and many many friends.

A graveside service for family members will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens Portland OR. on June 4th 2022.
