Robert Eugene Leonetti

February 17, 1949 ~ July 20, 2021 (age 72) 72 Years Old

  Robert Eugene Leonetti was born in Spokane WA. to Ernest and Dorthee Leonetti on Feb 17, 1949, 20 minutes after his twin brother, Bill.   After a courageous 1-1/2 year battle with lymphoma, Bob passed away on July 20, 2021.

  Bob was a lifelong Spokane resident attending St. Anthony’s grade school and Gonzaga Prep High school.  He then joined the Navy and served on the USS Bon Homme Richard during the Vietnam War as an Aviation Boatswain Fuels, 3rd Class E 4.  He was awarded the Vietnam Service medal, 2 Navy Unit Commendations, one Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Campaign medal and the National Defense Medal.

  After serving in the Navy, Bob returned to Spokane attending HVAC classes at SCC.  He and wife, Mary Baertlein, had two sons, Irah Eugene in 1975 and Edward Robert in 1977. 

  In 1993 he married Sandra Kay Snouffer and they built their forever home on wooded acreage in Spokane County. Bob was very active in his sons lives,  serving as a Scout Den leader and Cub Master and a member of the Adult Committee for Troop 117, then in 1991 becoming Scout Master for 6 years.  The boys and Bob spent many days hunting and fishing, working on cars and restoring old equipment. 

  Bob was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union over 15 years . He worked for Powers Sheet Metal from 1976 as mechanic and service manager until 1991, and taught HVAC at Spokane Community College. 

  In 1992 ,he joined Gensco as their Field Service Representative and taught night school for the HVAC Association Trade School for eight years.  He was a well known, highly respected HVAC mechanic, tech rep and instructor until he retired in 2010.

  Bob was a long time active member of Assumption Parish in Spokane, attending the men’s Saturday morning Bible study and serving as President of the Retired Men’s Group.

  Traveling to Wyoming and Alaska to teach, love and laugh with his grandkids was one of his greatest joys.  He was a fierce woodcutter, camping enthusiast, fisherman and hunter of upland birds.  He enjoyed and spent great times on the water and favored the sea breeze.

  Bob was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, and his brother James.  He is survived by his loving wife Sandra, his sons Irah (Erin) of Cody Wyoming and Ed (Crystal) of Anchorage Alaska and by  grandchildren Dominic and Stella, Audrey and Gigi.  He is also survived by his twin brother, Bill (Jerianne), brother, Douglas, sister, Deanne Martens (Steve) and multitudes of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews .

    Memorial contributions can be made to Assumption Catholic Church and  Boy Scouts.  A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Assumption Parish, 3624 W Indian Trail Rd, Spokane, Washington.  Burial will take place at 10:30 am, Friday at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W Espanola Rd, Medical Lake, Washington, followed by Mass at 12:00 pm at Assumption Parish.
