Virginia Jean Schmautz

Virginia was born April 18, 1938 to William Maart and Rachel Malcolm Maart in Thompson Falls, MT.  She passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2021 of natural causes in Nine Mile Falls, WA.

Mom met and married her high school sweetheart, Marv Schmautz, in Missoula, MT and they began a 60 year journey together until his death in 2015. Mom and Dad never wavered from their love and dedication to each other and their family.

The most important thing to mom was being surrounded by her family.  She spoiled us with her fabulous baking, cooking and general tender loving care. She had a unique and special relationship with each of her kids and grandkids, always putting us first and making time for whoever needed her the most.  She was the backbone of our family.  Mom was also a sister, mom and grandma to anyone who came into her life. If you knew her, you loved her. If you needed her, she was right by your side.  Besides cooking, baking and helping anywhere she was needed, Mom especially enjoyed painting, crafting, and shopping… and a little more shopping!

Mom has left behind her younger brother; Bill Maart, her sisters and brother in laws; Bernice, Joanne, Jo, Jan and Gary; and several nieces and nephews that she considered her own. She also leaves behind her five children; Brenda, Brent (Becky), Todd (Patty), Darcy and Mike (Heidi) and her most favorite people in the world, her 18 grandchildren, their spouses and her 10 great grandchildren.  We are so very grateful and blessed that God gave us this beautiful, sweet angel we call mom, grams and friend.   We find comfort in knowing mom and dad are together again.  Mom will be deeply missed and treasured by all who knew her.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 10:30am at Riverside Memorial Park, 211 N. Government Way in Spokane, WA.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 12pm at the Sundance Community Clubhouse, 7015 W. Jimmy Lane in Nine Mile Falls, WA.
